It All Started with Two Boys who Love Slow-cooked Georgia Style BBQ (and Skiing)

From Georgia to the Rockies

Two adventurous boys from Georgia came to Colorado chasing the Rocky Mountain lifestyle. At just 29 years old, fraternity brothers Matt and Nick packed their trucks and headed west to ski, snowboard, and build a life in the mountains.

When the 2009 Recession hit, they both lost their jobs within a week of each other. With ski passes already purchased and no plans to leave Colorado, they turned to what they knew best—authentic Southern barbecue.

BBQ in a Brown Bag

In December 2010, Matt and Nick began delivering homemade Southern BBQ in brown bags from their apartments in Boulder.

Word spread quickly, and their barbecue soon became so popular that they began selling it in the parking lots of local breweries. What started as a way to keep skiing quickly grew into something much bigger.

The First BBQ Shack

In 2011, the pair opened their first location in a tiny 100-year-old house in Longmont, Colorado.

The little shack captured the spirit of the Southern BBQ joints they grew up with—great food, sweet tea, and genuine hospitality shared with friends and neighbors. Guests gathered on the porch for slow-smoked Georgia-style BBQ and scratch-made sides.

Growing the Georgia Boys Family

As demand grew, so did Georgia Boys BBQ. A second location opened in Frederick in 2014 with expanded seating, a patio, and a full-service bar featuring local breweries.

In 2017, Georgia Boys was named Best BBQ in Colorado by the Travel Channel and was featured on the show Food Paradise.

Adapting and Expanding

The pandemic in 2020 brought new challenges, but the Georgia Boys team quickly adapted by launching their first food truck, giving the community a safe way to enjoy award-winning BBQ.

In 2022, a third restaurant opened in Greeley, featuring spacious dining and an all-season porch perfect for enjoying sweet tea year-round.

Today

Georgia Boys BBQ now serves guests through multiple restaurants, food trucks, and catering events ranging from small gatherings to large celebrations.

Their BBQ sauces are also available in the restaurants and on this site for purchase.

Through it all, their mission remains the same:
Serve authentic Southern BBQ with genuine hospitality that makes everyone feel at home.
